President's Message

For Such  a Time as This

"I saw that when the message shall increase greatly in power, then the providence of God will open and prepare the way in the East for much more to be accomplished than can be at the present time. God will then send some of His servants in power to visit places where little or nothing can now be done, and some who are now indifferent will be aroused and will take hold of the truth" ( ). That exerpt is taken from a section in Testimonies Vol 1 entitled The East and The West. The section begins very soberingly. She says "It requires much more power to move the people in the East than in the West and at present but very little can be accomplished in the East...The people in the East have heard the proclammation of the second coming of Christ, and have seen much of the display of the power of God, and have fallen back into a state of indifference and security where it is almost impossible to reach them at present." This was written in 1857. What about now? It is my firm belief that the Atlantic Union chapter of ASI has been reinvigorated for such a time as this...150 years later. Can it be that there is a sound of abundance of rain here in the east? Elijah the Tishbite, in verse 1 of chapter 17 proclaims that there would be a drought with these words, "...there shall not be due nor rain these years, except at my word." The word of the Lord came to him  ordering him to get away and hide by the Brook Cherith; a brook which flowed into the Jordan. The Lord promised that he would drink from the brook and that the ravens would feed him but alas the brook dried up because of the drought. The context, of course is a stubborn people to whom the oracles of God were entrusted but who were indifferent to God and, in fact, preferred other gods. After a dramatic display on Mount Carmel, climaxing with Elijah's offering on the altar which though drenched with water was consumed by the fire of the Lord which fell from Heaven consuming the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licking up the water that was in the trench, the people fell on their faces acknowledging God as the Lord God. Triumphantly Elijah declared that there was a sound of abundance of rain. The Bible says "...and there was a heavy rain."

I believe that we here in the Atlantic Union have been revived for such a time as this. As we see not only the US economy falling apart, but the world economy also following suit and as we see world unrest and strange weather patterns arising, we need to somehow see our places in this time in earth's history and truly be in the word, know who our redeemer is because we have been raised up for such a time as this.  My prayer for our Atlantic Union ASI is that we will re-assess our lives, that we will have clarity of the message of Christ and His righteousness. I pray that we will receive "the Spirit of Christ - the Spirit of unselfish love and labor for others" so that we can "grow and bring forth fruit here in the Atlantinc Union. I believe that when Ellen White said "I saw that when the message shall increase greatly in power, then the providence of God will open and prepare the way in the East for much more to be accomplished than can be at the present time" she was referring to this very time. Note she did not say that when the economy falls apart, or natural disasters increase, or wars seem to break out at the drop of a hat. She referred to a message increasing greatly in power. What is that message? She says "It is the darkness of misapprehension of God that is enshrouding the world. Men are losing their knowledge of His character. It has been misunderstood and misinterpreted. At this time a message from God is to be proclaimed, a message illuminating in its influence and saving in its power. His character is to be made known. Into the darkness of the world is to be shed the light of His glory, the light of His goodness, mercy, and truth...The last rays of merciful light, the last message of mercy to be given to the world, is a revelation of His character of love." COL p 415. This was the message of Elijah and is our timely message for today in the East.
